Healing in a Holy Land Fall 1999 Mosaic

Healing in a Holy Land is part of the Fall 1999 Mosaic, the video magazine of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Jim Quattrocki, Kevin Jacobson and I recorded this story at Augusta Victoria Hospital, a health care facility operated by the Lutheran World Federation AVH serves both Palestinian Christians and Muslims.

We tell the story of 12-year-old Jameleh, a Muslim girl who comes by bus three times a week for kidney dialysis. Jameleh lived in the occupied West Bank and could not legally enter Jerusalem. Only papers verifying her condition allowed her and a family member to pass through difficult Israeli border checks for the four-hour treatments that kept her alive.

We went with Jameleh on her journey as she received treatment and learned how a hospital which still thrives today, was then serving as a lifeline open to all.
