Thursday, February 12, 2004, Kevin Jacobson and I were in Gokyurt, Turkey, near Konya. Back in the Apostle Paul’s day cir A.D. 50, it was known as Lystra, part of the Roman Empire. The mountains west of Konya are sheep herding country. Every now and then you can see flocks moving through the snowy hills followed by the shepherd and his dog. When dogs spotted the car they gave chase. Rounding a bend, we came upon an entire flock blocking the road. Excited by the chance to video tape them, and not seeing any dogs, I grabbed the camera, jumped out of the car and plunged into the flock. To my dismay, the sheep parted. Through the flock came a huge, muscular dog wearing a collar with four inch steel spikes!
