Lutheran Social Services of Illinois, one of my favorite clients, asked me to produce their annual Amicus Certus video about the great work with Post-Adoption, Adoption Preservation, Search and Reunion Services and Birth Mother’s Support Groups.

When a cholera epidemic hit Northwest Illinois over 150 years ago, Lutheran congregations rallied together responding to the needs of children who’s parents had died. On October 31, 1867, the doors of a new orphanage opened in Berlin, Illinois to receive these children. This small step marked the beginning of Lutheran Social Services of Illinois legacy of service to people in communities across the State.

Throughout it’s 150 year history, LSSI has followed the mandate of it’s mission, to respond to the Gospel by bringing healing, justice and wholeness to people and communities.

This 2017 Amicus Certus (Latin for “True Friend”) video tells the story of LSSI’s on-going Adoption Services program.

How’s this for a selfie? Working on a documentary on the history of WCFC TV38, I unearthed these vintage 1980’s stand-up’s featuring your’s truly as a cub reporter on the weekly news magazine, Page Two. We covered all kinds of stories, often with a conservative bent that makes me cringe these days. Thanks to Wade Bobbitt, David Oseland and Clark Gray among many others for help getting my career launched and not making too much fun as I played “reporter.”

Through this foster care video, Ron, a Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) foster parent, shares his foster parent story. For Ron, foster parenting is a way to give back to the community. Though foster parenting has its challenges, Ron’s two eldest foster children have overcome these challenges, graduated high school, and are now in college. He has 3 more kids to graduate, and is always appreciative of how the LSSI staff frequently check in to provide emotional support and assistance.

“My Awesome Life” is Lutheran Social Services of Illinois‘ (LSSI) brand-new Lifebook. A Lifebook is like a scrapbook in that it celebrates the child’s life through photos, drawings and memories, but different from a scrapbook in that it includes journal pages that explore the child’s thoughts and feelings.

I produced this video with Steve Rusk from Meyer Partners and Susan Greeley from LSSI.
