We recorded this video with friends Ken and Kathy Carwell in Three Lakes, Wisconsin. Chicago No Limits Fishing creates opportunities for persons with disabilities to explore the world of fishing in the Chicago area. Organizer Ken Carwell shares his passion for fishing and his journey into the world of disability. Chicago No Limits Fishing purchased a large pontoon boat and is in the process of making it accessible for persons of all ages in partnership with Chicago Adaptive Sports and the Chicago Park District.

LWF Mount of Olives Sports Field

What was once a dusty, rocky, dirt field is now a state-of-the-art soccer pitch with artificial turf and lights that normally stay on late into the night as community clubs and neighborhood children practice and play on the field.

LWF Jerusalem purposely held this video for release on July 7th, to coincide with the beginning of the final week of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brasil. Many of the kids in the video dream of being a great footballer one day. With much sadness, the release of the video also comes at a time of tragedies and heightened tensions in Jerusalem. As if to express the collective grief and frustration of the community, the field has been dark and silent on recent nights.

This is one of a series of videos I produced this year with Mark Brown for The Lutheran World Federation Jerusalem Program.

Soccer on the Mount of Olives

Palestinian boys practice practice at a new sports facility owned by the Lutheran World Federation on the Mount of Olives. The modern, professional grade playing surface is the first of it’s kind in this part of East Jerusalem serving Palestinian children.

Colorado Zip Line

Went on my first zip line at Lutheran Valley Retreat near Divide, Colorado last week while on a shoot with Bethesda Lutheran Communities. The campers were zipping down the mountain, so I needed a shot from their perspective. It’s like a ski lift in wild reverse!

So, my daughter, Emily gets Connor and I $20 Bulls tickets in the nose bleeds. At half time, a guy with a walkie-talkie taps me on the shoulder and asks if we want to sit courtside? "Sure!" So, off we go to watch Bulls get pounded in seats with a ticket price of $950 each! "I must be in the front row!"

Steve Goodman: A Dying Cubs Fan’s Last Request

Cricket a Wicket in Chicago Suburbs

On a Sunday afternoon in Bolingbrook, Illinois, we enjoyed a Cricket exhibition between teams representing India and Pakistan. An estimated crowd of 1,500 fans gathered Indian Chase Meadows Park, to watch a short (five hour) 20/20 match. Chicago is making a bid for the 2016 Olympics and organizers of this event hope that Cricket becomes an Olympic sport.

The Chicago area is home to a large Indo/Pakistani community. The friendly atmosphere between teams contrasts with heightened political tensions between India and Pakistan itself. On this day, Pakistan prevailed, tallying 248 runs in the route. At the end, everyone shook hands and went home happy.

Green Bay Packers Home Movie Footage from 1960’s

My dad, John Floyd Frakes shot this footage in the mid-1960s at Milwaukee County Stadium. If you can identify the other team, we would love to know who it is.

Dad thinks he shot this somewhere between 1965 and 1967. Many Packer greats are clearly visible including Jerry Kramer, Paul Hourning, Willie Wood and others.

1958 World Series Braves vs. Yankees

Tuesday, October 14, 1958, the Milwaukee Braves took on the New York Yankees in game six of the World Series at County Stadium in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Two future Hall-Of-Famers, Whitey Ford and Warren Spahn, were the starting pitchers.

My father (John Floyd Frakes) got his hands on tickets and a press pass. He worked in consumer finance and is not a professional photographer. The footage is from our home 8mm movie camera. It includes Yankees greats Mickey Mantel, Whitey Ford, Yogi Berra, Hank Bauer, Elston Howard, Gil McDougal and Manager Casey Stengel. Milwaukee Braves include Warren Spahn, Hank Aaron, Eddie Mathews, Del Rice, Wes Covington, Del Crandal, Joe Adcock, Manager Fred Haney, Lew Burdette and more.
