Friday, December 2, 2016, I recorded Illinois Senator Richard (Dick) Durbin at the Chicago Leadership Prayer Breakfast.

In his remarks, Durbin challenged assembled Chicago business and religious leaders to remember “…the 40,000 people who awakened this morning in our state of Illinois in fear. 40,000 dreamers. Forty thousand young people protected by President Obama’s order. They are undocumented. They are in America. They know no other county. They were brought here as children. and they are asking for a chance to be a part of our future. 40,000 in Illinois, 740,000 nation wide. It will take prayers and good work to make their dreams a reality. Let’s remember them in our prayers this morning.”

The program features three faith communities that are doing the difficult, but necessary work of healing the lives of ex-offenders, and standing with them as they reenter society. Our hope is to engage with communities of faith in deep dialogue around these issues.

As part of the project, the Chicago Sunday Evening Club hosted a pair of community conversations about the question, “What happens when prisoners come home?”

The Chicago Sunday Evening Club presents a new, one-hour television documentary profiling three faith-based responses to life after prison. My friends Jim Quattrocki, Darren Harrison and Sandy Sticha helped to produce this hopeful look at faithful responses to life after prison.
