Amidst the conflict and tragedy currently taking place in Gaza, Augusta Victoria Hospital and the Lutheran World Federation Jerusalem continue to provide on-going care for Palestinians. One example is the first mobile diabetes clinic to serve the southern part of Palestine. The mobile clinic is equipped with a diabetes clinic, eye clinic, and a foot care clinic.

This is one in a series of videos I produced for Intersections International in Islamabad, Pakistan, March 10-15, 2014. Dr. Munazza Yaqoob from the International Islamic University in Islamabad, Pakistan heads the Critical Thinking Forum, a kind of interdisciplinary think-tank for young Pakistani women.

The US-Pakistan Interreligious Consortium seeks to cooperatively set an action agenda toward policy change and build bridges of faith-based understanding and respect between our two countries.

Valerie Mossman-Celestin is the Executive Director of Haitian Artisans for Peace International, in Musac, Haiti. HAPI is a capacity building project funded in part by the United Methodist Committee On Relief. Valerie shared her testimony with me while on a visit to Musac in 2011. It is a spiritual journey that began with the question, “What is help?”

People’s Resource Center, Basic Needs

Poverty in DuPage County may not look like what you or I might expect. In this story, we meet a college educated mother of five, who found herself in need.

Since 1975, People’s Resource Center has been bringing neighbors together to respond to hunger and poverty in DuPage, County, Illinois.

Services that meet people’s basic needs include food pantries that provide more than 7,000 families with 35,000 grocery carts filled with a week’s worth of food including fresh produce, frozen meats and bread.

Anna Hauge, Gifts of Grace

Here is a story I produced for Lutheran Life Communities Foundation. Anna Hauge was a Navy nurse on board the USS Tranquility, the hospital ship that rescued the survivors of the USS Indianapolis disaster in August, 1945. Anna is one of those unsung heroes who lived through an epic chapter in American history.
